Making Maps for MapWeasel

MapWeasel plots data dynamically, in the user's browser. It uses maps only as static background images, which it fetches from the server as the user scrolls and zooms.

For each zoom level, MapWeasel needs to access a set of regularly arranged, overlapping raster images. It also needs meta-data describing the maps that are available.

Because the data is only added to these maps in the individual user's browser, the maps themselves can be pre-generated once and for all when the site is being built. However, there will often be large numbers of such maps. MapWeasel comes with server-side software to make it easier to generate the necessary tiles and meta data from small numbers of larger tiles of the kind that are readily available.

If you don't have maps, or want to avoid the task of preparing them for MapWeasel, then Maps.Interactive offers a complete packaged service with MapWeasel software and up-to-date mapping of the area you need, to whatver detail you want.
